Transportation jobs are mostly either byproducts of various other industries or businesses, instead of being just an industry in itself. Due to that transportation jobs also suffer from the ups and downs of the market. For instance, during the recession of 2007-2010, transportation jobs have been hit quite a lot due to companies shutting down. Transportation jobs even overlap into information technology these days, with software programs being used to manage many aspects of transportation.
